The debate days, which will establish the basis for the preparation of the draft Law on Climate Change and Energy Transition, were inaugurated today by the President of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, and the European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy, Miguel Arias Cañete; accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, Isabel García Tejerina; and the Minister of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, Álvaro Nadal.
The aim of this conference is to reflect in depth on the key aspects necessary to establish the regulatory framework for the future Spanish Climate Change and Energy Transition Law. A law that must respond, in the medium and long term, to build a new model of sustainable, low-carbon and climate-resilient development, which is the commitment assumed with the ratification of the Paris Agreement.
On 25 and 26 May, representatives of the Administrations, political groups, companies, the financial sector, NGOs, trade unions and the scientific sector presented their proposals on the future Law, to build a new model of sustainable development.
The conference has five working sessions, dedicated to the main sectors and areas of interest such as “The agricultural, livestock, forestry and food sector”, “The importance of adaptation to climate change in Spain” or “City solutions: waste, residential and urban mobility”. There will also be a debate on “A sustainable and low-carbon transport model” and “Energy and industry in the transition to a low-carbon model”.
