Teresa Ribera, Secretary of State for Climate Change at the Ministry of the Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, values domestic projects as an efficient tool to maximise the policies underway against climate change.
Presented on December 1 at the headquarters of the Ministry of the Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs, the report has been prepared by the Club of Excellence in Sustainability (with BSH Electrodomésticos, Endesa, Holcim and KPMG) with the technical support of the Spanish Office for Climate Change and the collaboration of the Biodiversity Foundation.
Its objective is to propose, from a business point of view, options that encourage the development of effective improvement and efficiency projects for the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within our borders. In order to consolidate the scenario of compliance with the Kyoto Protocol and the path of reducing emissions, the promotion of domestic projects offers an additional opportunity to encourage reductions in diffuse sectors.
The research also incorporates the analysis of how different countries in our environment have successfully designed new mechanisms. In these, the reduction of emissions is considered as one of the main magnitudes to qualify for the different public incentives that are established in terms of efficiency.
At the event, Teresa Ribera stressed the importance of the private sector also contributing concrete ideas to a complex and long-term process. He also underlined the value of this report, as it proposes measures in favour of the environment, citizens and companies and especially because “in this process of change towards a new development model, a low-carbon model that ensures the sustainability of our planet – he pointed out – all fronts of action play an essential role in achieving a package of measures that reduce greenhouse gas emissions”. GHG in order to achieve the goal of 2ºC as the maximum increase in temperatures by the end of the century”.
