Three quarters of the world’s solar thermal power comes from Spain

Protermosolar, the Spanish Association of the Solar Thermoelectric Industry, has pointed out that three quarters of the world’s solar thermal power is produced in Spain.

Currently, Spain has 35 solar thermal power plants that generate a capacity of 1,581 MW, 72.85% of the total installed capacity globally. This figure means that the Spanish set of plants that obtain energy from the sun triples all those that are in operation in the other eight countries that have this system, that is, the United States, Thailand, Egypt, Morocco, India, Italy, Australia and Algeria.

In addition, solar thermal systems and technologies developed by Spanish companies and research centres are present in 60% of the plants under construction in the United States, India, the United Arab Emirates and Mexico.
