Today the first edition of BioCultura in this city was inaugurated in Valencia. The director of the Biodiversity Foundation, Ana Leiva, participated in the opening ceremony, accompanying the director of the fair and president of the Healthy Life Association, Ángeles Parra.
“Biocultura” takes advantage of a long experience forged in Madrid and Barcelona and transfers it to the Valencian Community, to continue spreading the value of organic production. From today until Sunday, March 7, more than 300 companies and entities will exhibit, in Hall 8 of the Feria Valencia, sustainable products and services. It offers all the latest developments in organic food, certified hygiene and cosmetic products, eco-materials, furniture and decoration for the home, new technologies in renewable energies, innovation in complementary therapies, savings and recycling products, toys, crafts, music, books and magazines.
The Biodiversity Foundation promotes activities that, like this Fair, promote the social recognition of biodiversity as a source of ecological resources and services essential for the health and well-being of citizens. On this occasion, “Biocultura” places the emphasis on promoting the domestic consumption of organic food, taking into account that Spain is the first European country in area dedicated to organic production (1.3 million hectares) and, however, exports around 80 percent of what it produces.
Within the framework of the Fair, the Healthy Life Association also proposes the Ecological Festival of Children “MamaTerra”. This activity, supported in several editions by the Biodiversity Foundation, is aimed at children but also at their parents and teachers, with workshops on recycling, healthy cooking, organic gardening, renewable energies, ‘plant forests’, water management, theatre, storytelling and concerts. Awareness-raising is, without a doubt, the first step in any joint and large-scale action that affects the causes of environmental deterioration.
Another of the initiatives present in Biocultura that has the support of the Biodiversity Foundation is that of the Spanish Society of Organic Agriculture (SEAE) to promote short marketing channels, within the framework of the Empleaverde Program. The EEAS is participating in the Fair with this task, offering a course that will allow attendees to listen to experts and participate in debates on each of the aspects of the market for organic agricultural products.
