The MITECO Biodiversity Foundation has inaugurated today, at its headquarters in Seville, the exhibition “Jorge Camacho + Christian Vinck: Round trip” which is developed in collaboration with the META Miami Foundation and the Doñana Biological Station (EBD-CSIC), within the framework of the Doñana AVE project. The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge (Patio de Banderas, 16), will be open to the public from October 18, 2024 to February 12, 2025 from Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This exhibition seeks to become a space for dialogue between art and nature, inviting reflection on the current situation of Doñana and the essential need to preserve this natural heritage for future generations. This exhibition offers a sample of the work of two great artists. On the one hand, it presents a diverse selection of the renowned Cuban artist Jorge Camacho, which includes photographs, paintings, banners, documentation and hemerography; in dialogue with the paintings, drawings and an installation by the Venezuelan artist Christian Vinck, the result of his artistic residency in Doñana Park. The exhibition is part of the “AVE Doñana” project, an initiative designed to highlight and raise awareness of the importance of the Doñana National Park, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the Doñana Biological Station and the 30th anniversary of its declaration as a World Heritage Site. In addition, the inauguration takes place one day after the celebration of the 55th anniversary of the declaration of this space as a National Park. AVE Doñana delves into the relationship between two protected areas on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean through art, the Hato El Frío in Venezuela and the Doñana National Park in Spain. In addition, during the time it is on display, various complementary activities will be carried out with dialogues on art and nature. Among them, there will be the renowned writer Zoé Valdés, who will offer a discussion about the life and work of the artist Jorge Camacho on October 19 at 12:00 p.m. The film cycle “Doñana as inspiration” will also be developed, which aims to expand the knowledge of the park through cinematographic art. This cycle will focus on documentary film, offering a detailed view of the changes in the ecosystem and the deterioration of the landscape environment. It will also include fiction film proposals, which reproduce the relationship between cinema and Doñana. The screenings will include works representative of different historical moments, from the first cinematographic document filmed in the region, “El Corcho” (1941), to the rise of documentary cinema in the seventies and culminating with “Doñana. Wild Reserve of Europe”, an unreleased film. These actions aim to promote the transformative capacity of culture and art, generating new debates and reflections on the ecological transition and lifestyle changes, from an innovative and artistic perspective.
