From the Biodiversity Foundation we have organized different actions to commemorate Earth Day on our social networks.

On April 22, 1970, 22 million Americans, 10% of the U.S. population at the time, took to the streets to demonstrate for action to conserve species, air, land, and water, demanding a new way forward for our planet. This first celebration of Earth Day, 50 years ago, is recognized as the largest civic event in the world for the defense of the environment.

In this context in which we are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the climate crisis, it is important to generate social awareness to maintain a healthy planet. Climate change represents the greatest challenge to the future of humanity, as well as the conservation of biodiversity, which makes the world we live in habitable.

This pandemic poses a risk to global health and the economy, but also to biodiversity. However, biodiversity may be part of the solution, as a diversity of species hinders the rapid spread of pathogens and is an indicator of the Earth’s health.

Changes in biodiversity affect the functioning of ecosystems and can cause significant alterations in the goods and services they provide. The specific links between health and biodiversity are evident.

In the immediate future, it will be important to address biodiversity loss. For this reason, from the Biodiversity Foundation we have organized different actions to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on our social networks. They are mainly aimed at children, to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining a planet for our future.

Thus, we launch a new episode of #Bioartistas, related in this case to Earth, our home; we also propose a game singer to sing and dance “Pequeño Planeta”; we invite you to draw for the planet; and in #ButacaVerde we recommend the documentary “Earth. ”.

Our health and that of planet Earth cannot wait, let’s take care of it!
