The International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated on May 22 in commemoration of the approval of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992. This year, under the theme “Building a shared future for all forms of life”, it seeks to promote the idea that biodiversity is the answer to the contribution of solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve health problems, promote food and water security or promote a sustainable economy.

The International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated on May 22 in commemoration of the approval of the Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992. This year, under the theme “Building a shared future for all forms of life“, it seeks to promote the idea that biodiversity is the answer to the contribution of solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change, improve health problems, promote food and water security or promote a sustainable economy.

On the occasion of this anniversary, the Biodiversity Foundation promotes Biodiversity Week from 16 to 22 May. In line with the mission and activity of the Foundation, this initiative aims to highlight the importance of biological diversity, which includes both species and ecosystems, raise awareness of the benefits it brings us and raise awareness of the responsibility we have for its preservation, which is essential for the health and survival of the human species.

In this context, numerous actions will be carried out on the Foundation’s social networks in which different graphic materials and audiovisual content will be shared with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of conserving biodiversity to achieve a more sustainable planet.

This week, in addition, three fundamental days for biodiversity at a global level are commemorated, such as World Recycling Day , which is celebrated on May 17; World Bee Day, on May 20; and the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network , which is celebrated every May 21 and which this 2022 commemorates the 30th anniversary of the largest network of protected areas in the world.

Also, among the planned actions we will have various experts who, from different fields of action and approaches, will highlight the value that biological diversity brings from various areas, through small audiovisual pills, on the Foundation’s social networks.
