Anti-Desertification and Drought Day 2025: Restoring the land, creating opportunities

On the occasion of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which is celebrated on 17 June, and under the slogan “Restoring the land, generating opportunities”, the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, in collaboration with Casa África, is organising a conference, at Casa Árabe’s headquarters in Madrid, in which this problem will be discussed, creating a space for analysis on possible solutions to desertification and drought with a focus on youth.

DAY TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION AND DROUGHT
Officially declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994, the Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which is celebrated every 17 June, is a unique occasion to highlight practical solutions to combat desertification, land degradation and drought. Each year, a host country hosts global celebrations.
The theme for 2025 is “Restore the land and unlock the opportunities”, which reflects the multiple benefits linked to land restoration.
