This project aims to conserve and expand the black vulture (Aegypius monachus) in Castilla y León and Extremadura, in order to ensure its long-term stability in the Iberian Peninsula.
It has the following specific objectives:
- Manage the tasks of the project to promote the conservation of the black vulture.
- To support the growth of the black vulture breeding population in the Iberian West, improving the reproductive success of their colonies in areas far from disturbances, through habitat management in Extremadura to increase the resilience of plant formations to fires.
- Ensure a sustainable and quality supply of food for the black vulture by maintaining the dunghills by promoting feeding areas without enclosures.
- To increase knowledge about the effects of pollutants, such as lead, veterinary drugs and illegal poisoning, on the black vulture, developing strategies for their reduction and regulation, and to improve measures to prevent illegal poisoning by promoting the reconciliation between fauna and the livestock sector in western Iberia.
- To evaluate the impact of the conservation actions carried out in the project on the breeding population of the black vulture.
- Promote the conservation of the black vulture through exchanges with key sectors to raise awareness in society and encourage greater interest in its conservation.
