Within the framework of the agreement, the Biodiversity Foundation and Casa África carry out various actions. For example, during the year 2022, some seminars have been organized on climate change and its effect on natural disasters and biodiversity loss. On May 17, a webinar was held on Natural Disasters in Mozambique. In addition, together with the Basque Culinary Centre, a round table was organized, within the framework of the World Desertification Day, to reflect on the role of gastronomy in the fight against desertification.
We support non-governmental organizations through a call for grants that seeks to promote their participation in the definition, proposal and execution of public policies of state competence. This call, which will be biennial, has a budget of €800,000, which will allow the execution of more ambitious projects.
The European Biodiversity Partnership, Biodiversa+, which provides continuity to the ERANETS of the Horizon 2020 program, is one of the key actions of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 under the European Union (EU) research and innovation (R&I) framework program for the period 2021 -2027, Horizon Europe. Developed jointly between the European Commission’s Directorate General for Research and Innovation (DG R&I) and Directorate General for Environment (DG ENV), its objective is to provide a global, multidisciplinary platform connecting local, national and European research and innovation programs with a common goal: to put European biodiversity back on the path to recovery by 2030.
Biodiversa+ was formed in 2021 as Action 81 of the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2030 and counts with the Fundación Biodiversidad of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge as one of the Spanish funding partners together with the Agencia Estatal de Investigación (AEI) and the Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI).
Biodiversa+ plans to publish, within its Work Package 1 (WP1), up to six calls for grants aimed at financing three-year projects, executed by at least three entities belonging to three European countries.
The Biodiversity Foundation, with co-financing from the European Commission, will support the Spanish entities that are selected by the Partnership and that focus their actions on the improvement of the marine environment.
To date, two calls for grants have been published. The one corresponding to 2021, BiodivProtect, aims to support the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems on land and sea. You can consult all the information about this call and the 36 projects selected by the partnership on the website of Biodiversa+. For its part, the call for proposals BiodivMon, published in 2022, aims to improve transnational monitoring of biodiversity and ecosystem change for science and society. All the information on this call can be found at Biodiversa+.
