The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, starts the “Clean Beaches” project on July 1 together with Unilever, an environmental awareness initiative that will be present on various beaches in Spain.
The programme aims to highlight the importance of biodiversity and raise awareness of good practices among all beach users, especially the youngest, by spreading values such as sustainability, recycling and respect for the environment. The theme of the workshops is structured in the areas of biodiversity, waste and threats to the environment.
These will be playful-didactic workshops that will be taught next to the kiosk or beach bar on each beach. Their duration will be approximately 20 minutes and they will be open to the public. The dynamics will consist of classifying and reusing waste or objects found in the sand, among others.
YOUNG PARTICIPANTS HIRED
This initiative aims to improve training and youth employment in Spain, generating jobs for people under 30 years of age who are looking for their first professional experience, enhancing their future employability through the acquisition of experience and specific training.
Thus, the young participants in the “Clean Beaches” program will be hired by local kiosks and beach bars to sell ice cream and will become, at the same time, dynamizers and sensitizers of the beaches thanks to training given by the Association of Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC).
The agents will carry out a specific training program so that, once completed, they will be in charge of distributing materials to promote the care of the environment and the cleaning of the ecosystem of our coasts.
Last year, a pilot test of ‘Clean Beaches’ was carried out in which it was possible to reduce the environmental footprint through beach agents.
In addition to the training workshops, the objective of “Clean Beaches”, which is part of the “Responsible Beach Bars” programs of the Biodiversity Foundation and “Soy Frigo” of Unilever, focuses on the generation of 100 jobs for agents that will help reduce the waste rate by 20% compared to the previous year, thus improving the quality of tourism in municipalities and coasts through the environmental awareness of users of the Spanish beaches.
