The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment allocates 2.5 million euros to carry out projects in the field of adaptation to climate change

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and the Environment, through the Spanish Office for Climate Change and the Biodiversity Foundation, has opened the deadline for submitting projects to the Biodiversity Foundation’s call for grants, on a competitive basis, for the implementation of projects in the field of adaptation to climate change. The total amount of these grants amounts to 2.5 million euros.

This call is aimed at the development of activities that contribute to the integration of adaptation to climate change in the planning and management of sectors, systems, resources and territories vulnerable to climate change in Spain.

The projects presented must be integrated as a priority in the generation and analysis of knowledge in the field of impact assessment, vulnerability and adaptation; the development of demonstration and learning projects on adaptation to climate change; mobilization of actors (transfer, participation, information, communication, awareness-raising and training) on adaptation; the promotion of the development and implementation of local and business adaptation plans and strategies.

In addition, the projects will fall into one of the categories of adaptation options included in the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). These options are physical structural (engineering, technology, services, and ecosystem-based); social (education, training, information, research and behaviour); and institutional (economy, laws and regulations, and plans and measures).

OPEN CALL

Non-profit organisations, public research organisations, universities, professional public law corporations, public administrations, local entities and SMEs may be beneficiaries of this call.

The maximum amount to be granted for each project may not exceed 120,000 euros or exceed 70% of the total budget of the project presented, 50% in the case of SMEs. The deadline for submitting applications to this call is February 28, 2017.

Projects must be completed by June 30, 2018.
