The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment joins the launch throughout Europe of the school project “Raised in the EU” coordinated by the European Commission. To this end, it will develop a large number of actions within the framework of Aquaculture Day 2016, which will be held on November 30. This school project is part of the “Inseparables” initiative with which the European Commission wants to highlight the advantages of eating, buying and selling sustainable aquaculture products in the European Union. In the coming weeks, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, will support and promote the dissemination and implementation of this campaign in schools, institutes and vocational training centres throughout Spain. The aim is to get students closer to the sustainable aquaculture that takes place in our rivers and coasts, allowing them to explore issues related to food production, consumption, the environment, science, technological development and innovation or recycling. The workshops, which the teachers will develop in the classrooms with the support of the Ministry, seek to put aquaculturists and auxiliary sectors in contact. the scientific community and other agents in the sector, with local communities, facilitating access to the most up-to-date information on sustainable aquaculture, through the physical presence of a large number of experts in schools, to publicize first-hand the work they carry out in their day-to-day work. Entities and individuals interested in participating in these workshops can contact the Biodiversity Foundation by email: criadoenlaUE@fundacion-biodiversidad.es. CONTEST “SAY YES TO SUSTAINABLE AQUACULTURE” In this same context, the Ministry, in collaboration with the European Commission and the main agents of the Spanish aquaculture sector, announces the contest “Say yes to sustainable aquaculture”, whose purpose is that schoolchildren and students of Spanish schools, vocational schools and institutes, contribute and build a fresh vision, casual and artistic of aquaculture in our country and in Europe. Both the campaign and the decision of the prizes of this contest will be presented during an event to be held in Alcobendas (Madrid) on November 28 at the National Museum of Science and Technology, managed by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT). All the information regarding the campaign and the available materials can be consulted on the website of the European Commission: www.ec.europa.eu/fisheries/inseparable/es/criado-en-la-ue-acuicultura and the activities scheduled in Spain can be followed on the website of the Spanish Aquaculture Observatory of the Biodiversity Foundation: www.observatorio-acuicultura.es
