The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), through the Spanish Aquaculture Observatory (OESA), once again promotes the celebration of Aquaculture Day by inviting public and private institutions, research centers, universities, technology centers, companies and sectoral organizations to organize activities related to this day. Those entities that want to participate with activities open to the public, which contribute to make visible the important role of Spanish aquaculture in the promotion of coastal and aquaculture areas, and the generation of employment, can register on the website of the Observatory (https://www.observatorio-acuicultura.es) until November 15, 2023.
The celebration of Aquaculture Day, which is held every November 30, was launched in 2012 by OESA, in coordination with the Spanish Aquaculture Society (SEA) and other associations and entities of the Spanish aquaculture sector. Since then, this date has been consolidated as an opportunity to disseminate to society as a whole that aquaculture is a modern and strategic activity, key to boosting the blue economy and employment in many rural and coastal areas of our country. Also to celebrate the fact that our country is a leader in aquaculture at the European level, not only in terms of production, but also in terms of environment and innovation.
The Biodiversity Foundation, with the support of the General Secretariat of Fisheries of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, seeks to bring together, on this day of celebration, all those people and entities that, in one way or another, work to continue promoting the sustainable growth of this activity in our country.
In addition, this year, coinciding with the celebration of Aquaculture Day, the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will present the report “Innovating towards the future: 20 years of R&D&I in fisheries and aquaculture in Spain”. This publication seeks to pay tribute to all the people and institutions that during the last 20 years have promoted and dedicated their efforts to the development of this research and innovative activity in fisheries and aquaculture.
