Hugo Morán highlights the decisive role of women as agents of change in the ecological transition and against territorial depopulation

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Hugo Morán, today closed the conference ‘Advancing women’s green entrepreneurship’, a meeting to make women entrepreneurs visible in the field of the green economy and to publicise the existing mechanisms to advance in this type of entrepreneurship in Spain, with special interest in the rural environment.

The conference, inaugurated by the Undersecretary for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Miguel González, was attended by twenty experts who highlighted the decisive role of women as agents of change in the ecological transition and against territorial depopulation. “Strengthening women’s green entrepreneurship as an essential focus in all our territories is not only a strategic issue, but also a matter of principles,” said the Secretary of State at the closing of the event, broadcast virtually.

The participants discussed the capacities of the public sector to advance green entrepreneurship, particularly taking into account the needs of rural areas and younger women. They have also presented the instruments that already exist to support green entrepreneurs.

During the day, businesswomen from different fields shared ideas and models of success that will serve as a reference to promote the participation and leadership of women on the path to sustainable entrepreneurship.

GENDER FOCUS IN THE RECOVERY PLAN

Within the approaches of the Recovery Plan, the role of women is essential to guarantee a more sustainable, egalitarian and inclusive model. Support for women’s entrepreneurship in the different sectors of the green economy throughout the country combines two of the fundamental pillars of the PRTR, which is committed to a greener country without gender gaps.

In the last year, MITECO has already incorporated the gender approach into the new regulatory and strategic framework for the ecological transition and the demographic challenge. In this way, various relevant plans and strategies focus on women as agents of change. These include the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change 2021-2030, the Long-Term Strategy for a Modern, Competitive and Climate Neutral Spanish Economy in 2050 and the recent Plan of 130 Measures to Address the Demographic Challenge.
