A total of 80 university professors are participating in the course “The University in the Face of Climate Change: Teaching Challenges and Possibilities for Action”, which will take place on September 16, 21 and 23. The objective of this training (taught virtually) is to analyze the current situation in the face of climate change and the role of the university and teachers in it.
The course, which is taught thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Office for Climate Change, the National University of Distance Education (UNED) and the Confederation of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), also aims to facilitate the integration of climate change into the academic curriculum and provide an update of knowledge about it. It also provides university teachers with new resources on adaptation to climate change.
This training arises from the need to increase awareness of climate change in universities and train young people for a professional performance according to the needs of a complex reality to which a response must be given from all areas of knowledge.
This training is part of the actions planned in the LIFE SHARA project, which is coordinated by the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and which has among its partners the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OEEC), the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the Autonomous Agency of National Parks -through the National Center for Environmental Education (CENEAM)- and the Portuguese Agency for the Environment.
A COMPLETE PROGRAM
The training program is aimed at university teachers in general, political representatives and technicians linked to management at the university and has a duration of 12 hours distributed in 4 days of 3 hours each. The programme combines exhibition sessions with the exchange of experiences and practical workshops, where skills and methodologies will be worked on to carry out the evaluation and conclusions of the conferences and the establishment of work networks.
