The Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, in collaboration with Teachers for Future Spain, have launched an awareness campaign on the importance of protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable lifestyle habits, aimed at primary school students.
“Biodiversity and Zoonosis” is the title of a series of materials that include 7 informative videos and an informative dossier with various topics and activities to learn through play.
The themes of the videos are related to biodiversity, zoonoses, care for our environment, promotion of responsible consumption habits, promotion of sustainable mobility, recycling and the importance of communicating and raising awareness about sustainability.
All the materials are available on the Biodiversity Foundation website, and will be shared with schools, teacher training centres and competent administrations in the field of education. The materials can also be consulted through the websites of both Ministries.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
Ecosystems generate essential services for human well-being, but it is necessary to know them and value the benefits they bring us. Incorporating sustainable and healthy lifestyle habits will help to achieve the change in model that is needed to meet the environmental objectives set in the short and long term.
“Biodiversity and zoonoses” is a tool that will help teachers and students to contextualize the current climate and health emergency and to value and improve knowledge of biodiversity, generating useful information and resources for society as a whole that increase awareness and sensitivity to phenomena such as the loss of biodiversity.
Contributing to improving environmental education is a key element in achieving an ecological and just transition. Increasing information, sensitivity, knowledge, predisposition, motivation, commitment or participation is essential for all sectors, and in particular education, to be part of this process.
