The general objective of the project is to promote the sustainable development of the fishing sector and rural tourism in the regions of Barbanza, Sar, Muros and Noia, as well as in its bordering regions of the provinces of A Coruña and Pontevedra and in Cantabria.
The initiative “ÁNCORA: actions for environmental awareness and information for the promotion of sustainability in the fishing sector through tourism” aims to contribute to the fight against the deterioration of the environmental quality of the Galician estuaries and the Cantabrian coast and against the overexploitation of fishing resources, as risk factors in one of the most productive natural spaces in Galicia and Cantabria.
In addition, it seeks to present fishing tourism as a sustainable and complementary alternative to its main activity, which can serve as a source of extraordinary income in times of low activity or closure and that also represents a reinforcement for the weak tourist offer of complementary leisure in these regions.
Likewise, the project seeks to inform and raise awareness of environmental matters among active women in the fishing and rural tourism sector of these regions, helping them to take advantage of opportunities for reconversion or complementation of their professional activity with sustainable tourism activity.
This initiative is mainly aimed at women workers in the fishing sector and the rural tourism sector, aged between 30 and 55, residing in the aforementioned regions.
