The creation of green companies is considered a key aspect to face the current economic situation, as it will serve to stimulate job creation and wealth generation, while advancing environmental sustainability.

The creation of green companies is considered a key aspect to face the current economic situation, as it will serve to stimulate job creation and wealth generation, while advancing environmental sustainability.

Entrepreneurship will play a key role by linking it to the concept of green companies, serving as an entry point in the search for a more sustainable, smarter and more environmentally friendly social market economy.

The general objective of “Companies for Sustainability” is to promote the creation of companies and the development of new lines of business linked to the environment, in the agriculture, construction, leisure and consulting sectors.

The entrepreneurial culture linked to the environment will be promoted, which will allow the start of new economic initiatives by offering information, training and advice appropriate to the needs and demands of the recipients.

To achieve the objectives, the initiative proposes the following main actions:

  • Awareness-raising aimed at raising awareness of the possibilities of creating employment and wealth, through the generation of businesses linked to the environment and sustainability, and promoting entrepreneurial culture.
  • Training aimed at meeting the training needs of future entrepreneurs, offering them the necessary knowledge to launch business initiatives in the target sectors with the minimum guarantees of success.
  • Advice aimed at informing, advising and accompanying those who wish to open a new line of business or create a green company in the target sectors, supporting and stimulating them in overcoming the obstacles that may arise.

The target audience of the project’s actions are, fundamentally, workers in the agriculture, construction, leisure and consulting sectors of SMEs and micro-SMEs and self-employed workers. The latter considering their special relevance in the generation of employment, as can be seen from the Report “Green Employment in a Sustainable Economy”, Biodiversity Foundation and Observatory of Sustainability in Spain, April 2010.

The expected results of the project are:

  • Training of 240 recipients, although the project will reach a total of 1,005 workers.
  • 30 green companies created or business lines developed in the activities of organic farming, eco-building and efficient construction, environmental consultancy and green leisure and environmental education.
