The general objective of the “Green Porticos” project is to promote the knowledge, protection and sustainable enhancement of the cultural assets present in the target territories, especially those associated with Romanesque art, introducing the environmental and landscape perspective in the processes of rehabilitation of historical heritage.
At the same time, it is intended that the valuable cultural offer of these areas contributes to the creation of a product of excellence that reinforces their tourist offer, where the cultural resources located in an environmentally conserved environment stand out. All this from environmental respect and promoting the sustainable development of local communities based on their endogenous resources.
In a transversal way, it is intended to contribute to the development of an awareness that values cultural and natural heritage from an individual and collective dimension, giving a prominent role in this process to women as a key agent in the socio-economic development and environmental protection of rural areas.
The recipients of the project are mainly workers, directly or indirectly linked to the tourism sector, aged between 30 and 55, and residents in Galicia (regions of Barbanza, Sar, Muros, Noia, and bordering regions in the provinces of La Coruña and Pontevedra) and Cantabria. In an indirect way, all the inhabitants of the geographical area of the project are targeted, since it will involve the enhancement of the cultural and natural heritage of their regions.
The expected results of the project are:
- Training of 60 recipients, although the project will reach 1,560 workers.
- Creation of three sustainable tourism packages based on the landscape and cultural heritage that can be integrated into the tourism offer of the Ruralover rural tourism network.
- Commitment of 20 companies in the application of the Manual of Good Practices in Rehabilitation and Sustainable Architecture.
