OBJECTIVE
The project aims to increase the environmental skills of workers who carry out their activity in the marine Natura 2000 Network and/or whose activities have a direct or indirect impact on it, thus promoting and encouraging sustainable tourism.
DESCRIPTION
The marine Natura 2000 Network has great potential for the development of tourism products. The characteristics of these protected areas require commercial exploitation compatible with the criteria for the conservation of habitats and species that served to declare them. For this reason, the project is framed within the conceptual model of sustainable tourism development, achieving a balance between social equity, economic efficiency and environmental conservation.
It has been designed with an applied vision that allows the recipients to put into practice the knowledge acquired with the help of the different actions that make up the project.
The project consists of two types of actions: training and advice. The training action takes the form of a package of training courses aimed at workers who carry out or wish to carry out economic activities in areas of the marine Natura 2000 Network. The courses focus on improving knowledge about marine protected areas and the development of sustainable tourism products. The topics range from fishing-tourism, environmental itineraries, environmental communication or the effects of climate change.
The advisory actions are aimed at entrepreneurs in the fishing sector who wish to launch fishing-tourism products. They are informed about the path they must take so that their boat complies with the regulations and can market tourist services, also providing them with knowledge about the environmental compatibility of their tourist activity in areas of the Natura 2000 Network.
Likewise, advice is offered to companies in the nautical-recreational sector, mainly port facilities and ecotourism companies near marine areas of the Natura Network. Its purpose is to improve communication with its users and customers, making them participants in the ecological value of the Natura Network. The advice includes an audit on the current state of environmental communication of a specific facility with respect to its environmental certifications and awards, the dissemination of the environmental values of the environment and the possibilities for improvement.
