Sustainable rural development through street vending cooperatives

Empleaverde program

The objective of the project is to train and qualify entrepreneurs for the creation and management of street vending work cooperatives in rural areas, promoting green entrepreneurship and reducing rural depopulation and its consequences for the environment.

The depopulation of rural areas has a negative impact, not only on the economic and social activity of rural areas, but also on the environment.

One of the main problems that most concerns us at COCETA is the replacement of local farmers and producers by the concentration of monopolies in the primary sector whose focus is on maximizing profits at the expense of environmental and social damages, such as the use of pesticides, transgenic seeds, and economic conditions that are difficult for workers to bear. in addition to the growing import of products manufactured in delocalized plants that were previously produced locally but have ceased to be produced as a result of depopulation, which has generated high environmental costs due to dependence on fossil fuels to carry out these imports.

The project aims to highlight the main economic model of the Social Economy, worker cooperatives, within a disadvantaged environment, with a sustainable distribution and supply model, street commerce, with a clear objective: the sustainable and environmental development of rural areas of Spain.

Street commerce, nowadays, has become an attraction for large cities and maintains, in its itinerant format, the public character as a supply channel in populations at risk of depopulation, becoming an element of population fixation through the approach and connection of commercial activity to the place.

The percentage of participation of women in the project will be 51%, while the percentage of participation of other priority groups (sum of the rest of the groups except women) will be 75%. The percentage of recipients who will create a company is 16%.

The project has an impact on the Natura 2000 Network.
