Training programme for the reintroduction of wildlife and environmental education

Empleaverde+ program

The project aims to develop solid and professionalizing training programs in the field of wildlife reintroduction and environmental education. It arises as a response to the problem of the increase in the fall of swift calves during heat waves, which has generated a high demand in the CREA San Jerónimo and other associations in Seville.

Given the growing number of admissions of these birds in summer, the project seeks to improve the training of professionals in wildlife rehabilitation and offer job opportunities in rural Andalusia. In addition, containment strategies will be implemented to ensure the proper care of these animals and decongest care centers.

The impact of the project is expected in three areas:

  1. Environmental: Improvement in the management of emergencies related to swifts and protection of local ecosystems.

  2. Social: Training and employment for unemployed people in rural areas.

  3. Economic: Job creation, promotion of ecotourism and environmental education.

To this end, workshops will be held with conservation experts.

The general objective of the project is to generate solid and professionalizing training programs in the field of wildlife reintroduction and the environmental education associated with this work. This objective is part of a current problem: the fall of swift calves during summer heat waves has been generating unsustainable situations in the CREA San Jerónimo, as well as in all the associations of support and care for these specimens, in Seville, in recent years.

During the summer months, the number of specimens of these species is very high and generating containment strategies that guarantee the care and recovery of these individuals has become one of the main challenges for multiple conservation associations in the province. This situation is repeated throughout the autonomous community. The increase in these emergencies implies an increasing demand for professionals in this field, as well as greater efforts by multiple associations to generate recruitment opportunities in the sector. The growing need for professionals in wildlife rehabilitation, as well as the greater presence of environmental education in all sectors, makes this course a professional opportunity for the most disadvantaged people in rural Andalusia.
