COFBLUEGROWTH – Fishermen’s guilds for the blue economy and growth and the sustainable development goals.

Pleamar program

Description

The National Federation of Fishermen’s Guilds intends to develop a strategic plan at the national level in terms of economy and blue growth, taking into consideration the sustainable development goals (SDGs), focusing on the sustainable use of coastal areas, seas and oceans to increase the social, economic and environmental benefits of fishing and shellfish communities.

Through a survey, which will be carried out in different sectors of fishing and shellfishing, as well as other relevant actors, necessary information will be collected on fishing and shellfish activity, integrated coastal zone management, environmental sustainability and protected areas, as well as gender issues, SDGs, etc. This action will serve to carry out a brief analysis of the current initial situation of fishing and shellfish communities in terms of blue growth and SDGs in the national territory. Through different workshops, the information and diagnosis obtained will be complemented and used to design the strategic plan and advance in the definition of sectoral strategic lines for the future, etc.

Finally, a strategic plan for fisheries and shellfish will be developed in terms of economy and blue growth, taking into account the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This plan will include its corresponding strategic lines, actions and measures to improve the socio-economic and environmental situation of the territories where seafarers operate and to promote blue growth in line with the SDGs, which in turn allows the integration of innovation and equality strategies.

A final day is planned to learn about the results of the project, as well as the strategic plan for the blue economy and growth and SDGs in the fisheries and shellfish sector designed.

For the initial diagnosis on blue growth and SDGs in the national territory, information was collected from more than a hundred agents involved in the fisheries and shellfish sectors, through an online survey on: fishing and shellfish activity, integrated coastal zone management, environmental sustainability and protected areas, gender issues, SDGs, etc. The subsequent analysis and treatment of the information was carried out to obtain a diagnosis of the situation.

In addition, different workshops were held in the autonomous communities subject to the project (Galicia, Asturias and Andalusia) in person and online, aimed at the fishing sector and all those actors related to the matter and/or of interest. These workshops were attended by the fishing sector, FLAGs, Administration, etc. These workshops allowed us to work on the COFBLUEGROWTH diagnosis, to deal with issues of interest to the strategic plan, as well as to publicise and explain the project and its progress.

Subsequently, the strategic plan for fisheries and shellfish in terms of economy and blue growth was defined, taking into consideration the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with their corresponding strategic lines, actions and measures.
