The project: “DEPOMAR – The importance of the work of women shellfish gatherers in Natura 2000 Network environments”, has been oriented towards environmental awareness and the promotion of ecological awareness, highlighting the importance of the protection and recovery of biodiversity and marine ecosystems in Natura 2000 Network areas as well as other environmental protection areas and the active and direct participation of women shellfish gatherers, reinforcing the leadership and empowerment of professional women at sea.
Under the project, five different free actions have been developed, one for publicity and dissemination of the project and four for awareness (code of good practices, audiovisual resource, awareness campaigns and technical conference), which have been very well received by the public, as well as by all professionals in the sector. This fact is evident after the influx in the awareness campaigns carried out in eight coastal municipalities in the province of Pontevedra with a long shellfish tradition in Natura 2000 Network environments. As well as, in the extensive participation in the technical conference, held in the Pazo provincial of the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, in which women from the scientific, associative, educational fields and the shellfish sector itself participated, addressing from their different perspectives the work carried out by women shellfish gatherers both in the conservation of the environment and in the governance and management of resources.
Depomar has had a very positive overall impact, as the initially expected results have been far exceeded, reaching the following figures:
– A1 Depomar Code of Good Practice: 803 downloads in digital format
– A2 Depomar audiovisual resource: 689 views https://youtu.be/4hSJQzSpC8Q
– A3 Depomar awareness campaign: 1,130 visits to the Depomar stand
– A4 Depomar Technical Conference: 53 participants https://youtu.be/xlWkfMVDMLA
– A5 Advertising: more than 20 news stories in the press, more than 50 tweets and one news item on local TV
Therefore, not only is the success of the project recorded, but also the need to establish synergies between the different actors whose active participation leads us to achieve the ultimate goal of making visible and empowering women shellfish gatherers, as well as the work they do.
