e-Lasmobranc: New technologies and advances in the knowledge of elasmobranchs from the Spanish east

Pleamar program

The e-Lasmobranc project aims to advance in the application of new technologies to improve the knowledge of elasmobranchs present in the southeast of Spain for their incorporation into the regulations and in the management and monitoring plans of the areas studied.
Its specific objectives have included important communication and dissemination work about the ecological value of elasmobranchs in marine ecosystems and the pressures to which these species are subjected, as well as and through knowledge to reverse the “Spielberg myth” and the bad image that society has of them.

The e-Lasmobranc project has set itself the following objectives:

  1. Apply machine learning tools to study elasmobranch images
  2. Analyze the fishing pressure carried out in the ISRAs area MURCIA POCKMARCKS
  3. Carry out public outreach activities on the target elasmobranch species to contribute to a change in perception and an improvement in their image
  4. To promote the visibility of women researchers in the field of marine sciences
  5. Encourage the exchange of good practices in the fisheries sector in the management of elasmobranchs
  6. Transmission of knowledge to Administrations and other institutions
