The project seeks ways to promote ecotourism as a sustainable complementary activity for the artisanal fishing fleet.
Throughout the project, the fishing and tourism sector has been the protagonist of the process in the participation of workshops to provide previous experiences and knowledge in this innovative strategic commitment to economic diversification for professional artisanal fishing. SEO/BIRDLIFE has foreseen an increase in fishing tourism and the environmental consequences on the marine environment that an unplanned activity may entail. For this reason, the manual has sought to incorporate the role that protected areas, especially the Natura 2000 Network and Marine Areas of Fishing Interest, also play in the conservation of the marine environment and the sustainability of fishing activity in the long term.
The achievement of the project has included training sessions to publicize the manual and the results of the project, taking the opportunity to distribute this manual in the main guilds and to know the assessment of the fishermen.
