PESCARES V has strengthened the procedures, protocols and methodology successfully applied in the marine reserves of Cabo de Palos-Islas Hormigas, Cabo de Gata-Níjar, Islas Columbretes, Isla de Tabarca, Levante de Mallorca-Cala Rajada and Punta de la Restinga-Mar de las Calmas (El Hierro). The same objectives in governance standards have been applied in the Cabo Tiñoso marine reserve successfully.
On the one hand, the information corresponding to the regulations and lists of diving clubs and schools with authorization to practice diving activities and the census of entities in the fishing sector that operate in the project’s target reserves have been updated, publishing them on the project’s website and available to the general public.
Likewise, working meetings have been held with the sectors involved in the marine reserve of fishing interest of Cabo Tiñoso, as well as in the other reserves subject to the project in previous phases, compiling the initiatives and collective and sectoral needs.
On the other hand, the adhesion to the PESCARES Framework Agreement of fishermen and divers in the marine reserve of Levante de Mallorca-Cala Rajada and in the marine reserve of Punta de la Restinga-Mar de las Calmas on the island of El Hierro stands out. In this regard, the public signing of the MOU Agreement (memorandum of understanding) between the artisanal fishing and responsible recreational diving sector has been celebrated.
For awareness-raising actions, several short audiovisual pieces have been made with interviews with representatives of different sectors (artisanal fishing and responsible recreational diving) of the marine reserve of fishing interest of Cabo Tiñoso and the audiovisual production “Protagonists“, created in PESCARES I, has been expanded with representatives of the different sectors of Cabo Tiñoso. On the other hand, several training days have been held for each sector of the RMIP of Cabo Tiñoso, creating a training manual. The results of the project were also disseminated through a virtual conference. As a complement, a survey has been carried out on more than 500 people on information from the Spanish PMRs and a mobile application (available for iOS and Android) has been created with information on the marine reserves in Spain.
