Project to raise awareness in society about the importance of protecting and recovering marine biodiversity, through the promotion of sustainable fishing, taking into account eco-social aspects related to the conservation of fishing activity that contribute to the fulfilment of the objectives of the CFP. The following actions will be developed: A1 Programme of conferences and congresses to raise awareness of the sustainability of the Sea, A2 Communication Campaign on the Sustainability of the Sea, A3 Information Portal on the Sustainability of the Sea and A4 Coordination and analytical work of the link between the “MARDEVIDAS” programme and the different priorities, specific objectives and strategic plans in which it is involved.

To develop a programme of dissemination and social and environmental awareness on the protection and recovery of marine biodiversity in the productive ecosystems where the Spanish fishing fleet operates, in order to achieve the sustainability of the Sea.

Specific objectives of the project:

OE1. Design, coordinate, organise and hold a programme of conferences and congresses to raise awareness of the sustainability of the Sea, focused on the importance of the creation of Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest and the implementation of Marine Strategies as an instrument for planning the marine environment to achieve Good Environmental Status.
OE2. To communicate, disseminate and disseminate the contribution of the Spanish fishing sector in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, among the general public, the scientific community, NGOs, future sustainable fisheries managers and sectors involved and interested in marine sustainability.
OE3. Communicate the actions and results of the project to society as a whole and to specific groups related to the marine environment.

 

A1 Programme of awareness days on the sustainability of the Sea.

A3 Sea Sustainability Information Portal.
A4 Coordination and analytical work of the link between the “MARDEVIDAS” programme and the different priorities, specific objectives and strategic plans in which it is involved.

 

Regarding action A1 program of conferences and congresses to raise awareness about the sustainability of the Sea:

  • Conference on the role of the guilds in the implementation of Marine Reserves of Fishing Interest (RMIP), held in the Levante de Mallorca – Cala Ratjada Marine Reserve, with the participation of state guilds that carry out their activity in marine reserves, guilds that are in the process of applying for one and fishermen who work in this marine reserve.
  • Seminar on information, reflection and analysis on the importance of Marine Strategies (MMS) as management tools to achieve Good Environmental Status (BEA) of the marine environment, held in Madrid with members of the fisheries and environmental administration, the scientific field, NGOs and sectors involved and interested in Marine Strategies.
  • Four thematic online colloquiums on the Integrated Maritime Policy.
  • Final day of dissemination of information and transfer of knowledge of the results of the project, for the preparation of a strategic plan for the sustainability of the sea, held in Madrid with leading experts in environmental, economic and social fisheries sustainability, the network of fishermen’s guilds of the FNCP, members of the fisheries and environmental administration, scientists, technicians and NGOs and members of the fishing sector.

The results of the A2 communication campaign on the sustainability of the sea:

  • A documentary on the Atlantic coast, the Mediterranean coast and insularities, on the importance of the fishing sector in food sovereignty, care for the marine environment, eco-social cohesion, climate change, marine litter, responsible consumption of km 0 fish products and women in fishing.
  • Two Mardevidas gatherings in the classroom: visits by the project’s technical team to Master’s Degrees in Sustainable Fisheries Management of the Faculty of Marine Sciences of Cádiz and the Faculty of Sciences of Alicante, to establish dialogues between the university public and the fishing sector on the role of the Brotherhoods as promoters of the Natura 2002 Network.
  • A Mardevidas camp for environmental awareness on board a boat for future sustainable fishing managers, with the involvement of the Fishermen’s Guilds, carried out in the Fishing Reserve at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and the Corrales de Chipiona, aimed at university students of journalism, biology, anthropology and marine sciences.

The results of the A3 Sea Sustainability Information Portal action:

  • A ceremony of initiation and public presentation of the project.
  • Design, layout and edition of informative material of the project for the general public and the fishing sector: two roll-ups of the project and 200 methacrylate plates of the project for the Brotherhoods of the FNCP network.
  • Creation of a “Mardevidas logo” with an updated corporate image on the current FNCP logo.
  • Publication of the actions and results of the project on the Internet and social networks.

And as a result of the A4 action coordination and analytical work of the link of Mardevidas with the different priorities, specific objectives and strategic plans in which it is involved:

  • Initial meeting to establish maximum coordination with the competent units of the General Secretariat of Fisheries, MTERD and MAPA.
  • Face-to-face and telematic meetings held to analyze the involvement of the project in the Integrated Maritime Policy, the Spanish Marine Strategies, the Natura 2000 Marine Network, the Common Fisheries Policy, the Water Framework Directive, the Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change and the Strategy for Marine and Maritime Research.
