The overall objective of the project is to promote the conservation and sustainability of socio-economic activities in the marine SPAs of Galicia.

Specific objectives:
1.Reduce the amount of waste in coastal areas and the sea

– 12 clean-ups of marine litter.

– Six clean-ups on shellfish bottoms:

• Two submarines: Guidoiro Areoso (2).
• Four intertidals: A illa de Arousa, Cambados (2) and O Grove.

– Six beach clean-ups: 20 beaches.

– More than 18 and a half tons of marine litter removed.

– More than 750 volunteers participating in the different waste removal activities.

– Three training sessions on economic sustainability aimed at marine professionals (fishermen, shellfish gatherers, neteiras and bateeiros).

– Two videos made:

• One on SPA areas and their importance in the sustainability and conservation of the marine environment (more than 1,600 views).
• Another on women of the sea and their relationship with biodiversity conservation (more than 2,200 views).

– A guide to good practices and measures to prevent the accidental capture of seabirds in the fisheries of Galician marine SPAs.

– Two infographics on methods to prevent accidental capture of birds in the fisheries of the Galician marine SPAs and tips for rescuing birds.

– A multidisciplinary study to quantify the value of biodiversity and ecosystem services.

– More than 20 entities that have participated/collaborated in the project

– More than 130,000 social media impacts

– More than 230 impacts in digital media, written press, radio and television.

– More than 24 million people reached by the set of media impacts:

• Digital media: more than 17 million.
• Television: more than 5 and a half million.
• Radius: more than half a million.
• Written press: more than half a million.
