General Objective:
Strengthen the REDMAR network and promote the employability of women graduates in maritime-fisheries training, as well as the exchange of good practices in terms of safety on board, the environment and gender equality.
Specific objectives:
The implementation of the REDMAR II project has allowed the consolidation and expansion of the REDMAR Network, created in 2013, for the exchange of good practices in the fisheries sector. In this way, communication links between collaborators and partners have been strengthened through the REDMAR web portal, where a forum was established to participate and exchange knowledge on good practices. Three workshops were also held within the framework of the project:
Among the conclusions obtained from the project, it is worth highlighting:
Entities likely to be interested in the project were contacted and 15 new ones joined the network, five of them maritime-fishing training. The network is made up of a total of 18 entities, including the Spanish Network of Women in the Fishing Sector, CEPESCA, ARVI and Fundación Mujeres, among others.
The project also promoted the embarkation of trained women on fishing vessels. Out of a total of 25 applications, eight met the necessary requirements to embark. Finally, two women embarked as second bridge officers (on a deep-sea trawler and a coastal purse seine). Fundamar and OPPC-3 monitored the contracting process and carried out training in good practices in terms of safety on board, gender equality and the environment for both the person hired and the shipowner. As a result of the experience, a report of conclusions on shipments was prepared, accompanied by videos and photographs. The two women provided positive feedback on the experience, highlighting the good atmosphere and interaction with the crew, the absence of difficulties during boarding and the lack of adaptation of the facilities to a mixed crew.
