The main objective is to raise awareness and improve the action protocol for the capture of turtles in fishing gear.

  • A Technical Manual of recommendations has been updated and distributed, which incorporates recommendations for action in the event of the probable incidence of gas embolism, and which has been summarized in a didactic and illustrated way in on-board sheets, work t-shirts and information panels.
  • Administrative authorizations from the MAGRAMA have been generated for more than 260 vessels, for the transfer of injured or sick turtles for recovery. This begins the legal coverage of the important participation of fishermen in the process of rescue and recovery of sea turtles.
  • Sea turtle reception tanks have been installed in almost all the fish markets so that the fisherman can use them when he arrives at port. The instructions for use and the protocol of action are indicated on the tank itself.
  • A climate of trust has been generated so that the fisherman who rescues a turtle is informed and if he wishes to know the process of recovery of the turtle.
