The project offers a definitive solution to the conflict generated by the presence of bears in mountain areas where there are beekeeping farms, through the construction of specific enclosures tested by FAPAS during 20 years of experience.
To promote the development of mountain beekeeping as a socio-economic factor, guaranteeing the presence of the honey bee in mountain ecosystems of high ecological value while ensuring the survival of the brown bear in this environment.
Protection of apiaries to prevent damage to brown bears.
The project foresees the construction of independent enclosures, widely scattered throughout the territory and with specific singularities each of them, including a prior analysis, as well as advice to each owner of the apiary to identify the risks of the presence of the bear for the survival of their installation. The project will provide direct coverage to a minimum of 350 mountain beekeeping farms in Asturias, Cantabria, Burgos, Palencia and León affected by the current and potential presence of brown bears (there are currently about 2,500 farms), which will mean 80 favored beekeepers, at least 40 identified bears and a 20% increase in honey production.
