As a result of the project, an area of 20,796m2 is expected to be renaturalized.
To ensure the coherence and effectiveness of all these actions, the Castellón Natural Strategy will be developed, covering the renaturalization and development of the city’s Green, Blue and Biodiversity Infrastructure (Castellón Natural Plan), promoting the creation of ecological corridors.
The project, of a purely urban nature, is framed in the previous work of the municipality, especially in its Urban Agenda, and stands out for being focused on issues of great interest in urban renaturation such as the potential of schools as climate shelters or artificial roofs and ponds as spaces to be renaturalized.
The project proposes the renaturalization of 18 educational centers located in Castellón de la Plana and El Grao de Castellón as a network of climate shelters, through the conversion of impermeable spaces into Mediterranean gardens, planting of trees and installation of vegetated pergolas, etc.; the restoration of 4 sheets of water for use as outdoor classrooms; the implementation of green roofs; the renaturalisation of urban roundabouts through the creation of a mini-forest and a Mediterranean garden, and the integration of balconies and terraces as spaces for experimentation with urban green infrastructure.
