Planning of multifunctional and multi-objective areas of green infrastructure for their integration into territorial planning and management (IATEIA)

FEDER

The project seeks to develop innovative methodologies to integrate territorial, social and economic aspects in renewable energy planning. Its objectives include analysing patterns of land use, employment and biodiversity, designing replicable methodologies, identifying good practices and proposing policy recommendations. In addition, it seeks to promote dialogue between key actors to reduce impacts and generate synergies that contribute to a sustainable deployment of renewable energies in rural areas at risk of depopulation.

IATEIA addresses one of the great challenges of the energy transition in Spain: to make the deployment of renewable energies compatible with the conservation of biodiversity, territorial cohesion and rural development. It proposes balanced planning, capable of reducing social conflicts, avoiding cumulative impacts on the landscape and ecosystems, and protecting local economic activities such as agriculture and tourism. In addition, it offers an opportunity to combat rural depopulation through decentralised energy models that are better integrated into the territory. At the same time, it strengthens climate change mitigation and adaptation, by preserving carbon sinks, reducing erosion and fire risks, and protecting ecosystem services essential to the resilience of rural areas.

The general objective is to develop innovative methodologies that integrate territorial, social and economic aspects in EIAs in rural areas, ensuring their compatibility with local socio-economic dynamics and promoting their social acceptance.

The project contemplates the acquisition and organization of data, the creation of data processing methodologies, analysis of spatial patterns of energy generation, analysis of land occupation patterns, change of uses, and effects on biodiversity and the structure of the territory due to the development of renewable energies (wind and solar). and methodology for analysing spatial patterns of job creation. It will also address the design of a predictive model for the development of renewable energies in Spain and the review of initiatives for rural development, mapping of actors and future scenarios.
