Renaturation of the agricultural park of Fuenlabrada

FEDER

The project seeks to use renaturation as a tool to address the social, environmental and economic problems faced by the Agrarian Park, the last vestige of productive agriculture in the Metropolitan Area of Madrid, whose general problem is the progressive degradation and risk of disappearance as a productive agricultural space.

As a result of the project, an area of 2,600,000m2 is expected to be renaturalized.

A very complete and detailed Green and Blue Infrastructure Plan is proposed, and highlights, in addition to the promotion of good agricultural practices for the benefit of plant and fauna biodiversity, the strong socioeconomic component of the project as an agrosystem.

To alleviate this problem, it is proposed to improve the functional and ecological connectivity of Fuenlabrada with its Agrarian Park; the hydrological restoration of the Fregacedos stream; the promotion of land stewardship agreements and rehabilitation of the experimental garden as a living laboratory from which the collaboration system is promoted and consolidated, and agroecology and knowledge transfer are encouraged; and the improvement of biodiversity and the promotion of fauna through the installation of refuges and hives to improve productivity and ecosystem functionality.
