Analysis and monitoring of climatic aridity in Spain (ARIDESP)

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

ARIDESP aims to improve the current knowledge on climatic aridity in Spain, its recent evolution and its future projection in a context of climate change, as well as to develop information tools to monitor its evolution in real time. The objective is that they become a fundamental tool for the management of desertification risk in Spain and a source of basic information.

Line of action:

Knowledge generation and management

Status:

En ejecución

Spatial scale of work:

National

Line of research:

Desertification, degradation and land restoration

Execution date:

2023

Duration:

01/04/2023 - 31/12/2025

Total budget:

284.063,78 €

Amount of aid from the Biodiversity Foundation:

254.857,21 €

Coordinating entity:

Aula Dei Experimental Station - Higher Council for Scientific Research (EEAD-CSIC)

In addition to generating knowledge, the project will develop and implement an open information tool to monitor aridity in real time, which will be a fundamental support for the management of desertification risk in Spain and a fundamental source of information for other studies in disciplines such as agronomy, ecology or water resources, among others.

Some of the actions included in the project are:

  • Development of a database on aridity in Spain.
  • Development of a database of future projections of climate aridity in Spain, based on the most recent and scientifically accepted climate projections.
  • Analysis of the recent evolution of aridity in Spain.
  • Development of an interactive platform for consultation and analysis of historical aridity databases and future projections.
  • Development of an operational aridity monitoring system in Spain.
