BIOPAIS will analyse the potential ecological and social impacts of large offshore wind farms in the Spanish Mediterranean, taking as a case study the first major project proposed in the area of Cap de Creus/Gulf of Roses (Costa Brava), to help avoid or minimise the impacts of offshore wind on marine biodiversity and the landscape. An interdisciplinary approach will be carried out that considers sensitive species, fragile habitats, fishery resources, landscape and society. The results will allow marine managers to better plan offshore wind energy in Spain and make decisions based on scientific knowledge, which will contribute to its compatibility with the protection of biodiversity and the landscape.
