The objective of the project is to provide dignified and welfare-compliant housing and destination to confiscated reptiles and amphibians included in the CITES convention.

In addition to reception, accommodation and health care, the ARAD programme gives the utmost importance to the investigation of carriers of notifiable diseases and other emerging diseases dispersed with the illegal trafficking of herpetological fauna. It includes specialised scientific advice, confidential police collaboration with the state security forces and agreements with training and educational entities.

Some of the actions included in this project are:

  • Shelter for turtles, reptiles and amphibians.
  • Relocation to other centres.
  • Construction of facilities.
  • Environmental education.
  • Writing of scientific articles.
