Due to the special nature of ownership in the Montes de Mano común, there is a certain amount of abandonment of the forest stands. Specifically, the chestnut forest is very old and in a state of near abandonment due to the lack of resources for its proper exploitation. For its recovery, it is essential to carry out projected silvicultural treatments in the existing stand.
This project will allow the transformation of the Moura mountain from a scarcely productive area to one that is well exploited from a bioeconomic point of view. In addition, it is intended to be a pilot project that can be replicated in the rest of the communities of forests in the Community of Galicia and other existing ones in Castilla León and Asturias. Thanks to this initiative, green employment will be generated through the creation of a center for the interpretation of the chestnut forest and its ecosystem, the creation of guided routes along the existing paths in the forest to understand its richness, not only natural but also bioeconomic, and a composting plant will be built.
The main objective of the project is to improve the conservation status of selected forest ecosystems, their biodiversity, their connectivity and their role in green infrastructure, through their protection, conservation and ecological restoration and through the ecosystem approach to sustainable forest management including the conservation and sustainable use of forest genetic resources and the protection of mature forests.
