This project integrates the municipality of Vilamòs which, due to the loss of private activity, has seen how the pastures used by livestock have been replaced by tree material, increasing the risk of fires.
The OVIHUEC.DAT project aims to convert this specific area into an agro-livestock area that serves as an incubator of innovation and a testing ground for the sector, that serves to attract future shepherds, that serves to communicate the visitor with these shapers of the landscape and caretakers of the natural environment and that serves to quantify in the form of life cycle, socio-economic impact and on the market, strategies for the introduction of these herds that are sustainable, that favor biodiversity and serve to reverse depopulation in certain environments.
The general objective of the project is to promote sustainable extensive livestock farming, which favors biodiversity and is attractive to new generations, and which not only serves to manage the territory through silvopastoral activity that reduces the risk of fires and cleans up our forests, but also boosts the local economy by reversing the depopulation of our rural and mountain areas. To this end, although most of the actions are carried out in the Vilamòs area, the main objective is to develop an approach model that can be replicated in other areas, obtaining the necessary data to transfer this knowledge to sites with similar problems in the future.
