The area of action is located between the Tagus and Duero river basins, an area with the highest density of Natura 2000 sites in the “hotspot” of the Mediterranean basin. In these regions, most of the pastures resemble plots of land, particularly at the end of summer. The project develops models compatible with nature conservation, which will be able to influence the transformation of use models. In addition, actions are carried out in rural areas, addressing the problem of depopulation through the generation of employment and opportunities.
The importance of the project lies in supporting local socioeconomic development in the western Iberian Peninsula and promoting biodiversity conservation through the sustainability of dehesa management. The Club de Fincas initiative will seek to implement nature-based solutions, in addition to supporting the strengthening and valuation of ecosystem services and the private sector in nature conservation.
The main objective is to design and implement initiatives for the diversification of agroforestry and pastoral use and rural development associated with dehesa, acting in the western Iberian region, a hotspot area and key zone for biodiversity.
