Benidorm is vulnerable to climate change. An increase in climatic extremes (torrential rains, droughts, heat and cold waves) is predicted, putting the natural environment at risk (fires, water stress, degradation of ecosystems, etc.) and the urban environment at risk. Benidorm is threatened by the risk to both citizen welfare and its socioeconomic viability, affecting tourism, based largely on its benign climate and with a large share of the aging population. The guiding idea of the project is to preserve and enhance the natural qualities of the periphery and the urban grid, creating a green structure that allows an optimal interconnection between the two. The proposed actions are aimed at improving the ecosystems of the periphery and the interior, eliminating barriers to pedestrian and wildlife mobility, using regenerated water surpluses and participatory and governance structures as vectors of empowerment and protection.
