PRTR Call for Proposals Project
The Green Belt of Ponferrada (AVP) aims to renature the city of Ponferrada, to increase biodiversity and improve adaptation to climate change. By creating the green and blue infrastructure. The ring will improve the connectivity of the city’s green spaces with the natural areas around it.

Nature and Man Foundation
Ponferrada has the need to improve urban biodiversity and recover certain areas degraded by old land uses. The areas pre-selected to be part of the AVP have great potential to act as areas for climate change mitigation, scenarios for practical and close environmental education, and strategic points to promote the presence of urban and peri-urban biodiversity.
The connection of the AVP will allow, in addition to the creation of ecological corridors, the promotion of the use of sustainable transport. It will also facilitate the use and enjoyment by the population, having a direct impact on their quality of life.
Some of the actions that stand out from this project are:
- Creation of the Green Belt of Ponferrada.
- Study of the connectivity of the Green Belt.
- Mapping and evaluation of the Ecosystem Services of the Green Belt.
- Monitoring Plan for Invasive Alien Species.
- Study of the subsoil and soil of areas with the presence of coal tailings.
- Renaturation of degraded urban areas
- Connecting Green Infrastructure
- Riverside restoration
