The Canary Islands Marine Demarcation (DM-CAN) presents 8 systems of attention to sea turtle strandings, independent and adapted to the situation and capacity of each island. In recent years and thanks to the project Analysis of the systems for attention to sea turtle strandings in the Canary Islands (Government of the Canary Islands), an exhaustive review of the system established on each island to deal with strandings and data collection has been carried out, as well as a detailed review of the turtle data recorded in the Canary Islands between 1987 and 2019. The results obtained have shown the urgent need to establish a coordinated system between the responsible agencies of each island, which allows obtaining contrasted information on the situation of turtles at the regional level (DM-CAN); solve common problems in a coordinated way; implement monitoring programmes for the Marine Strategy in a coherent manner; and disseminate verified information to the Canarian population.
