The project will demonstrate how stewardship generates bioeconomy in rural territories of Catalonia by promoting multifunctional sustainable forest management (SFM) that integrates the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity and habitats with the production of ecosystem services to generate resilient landscapes in the face of climate change. SFM will be planned at the landscape scale and will promote adaptive governance systems that generate territorial cohesion, include the gender perspective and promote bioeconomy models.

socially, environmentally and economically fair. These models will be based on the promotion of climate credits, the identification and generation of financing niches for forest stewardship, and the promotion of ecotourism, the primary sector and bioenergy to fix population in areas of demographic decline. Replicability will be encouraged through communication, training and citizen participation.

Promote land stewardship as a governance tool to generate bioeconomy in forest systems, promoting population fixation and the conservation and improvement of biodiversity.

Implementation of 4 SFM subprojects in 4 areas of Catalonia (Tarragona and Gerona) through stewardship with actions at the planning and execution level:

PlanningManagement plans for IF (Gaià valley, 1,402 ha including 499 ha owned by Repsol); GIF prevention plan, pilot plan for prescribed burning and feasibility plan for the recovery of the black vulture (Muga valley, 40,753 ha and 20,059 ha); modification of the forest management and custody instrument for the capercaillie (Pallars Subirá, 1,273 ha); management study for the resilience of the capercaillie mosaic (Pallars Subirá, 1,273 ha).059 Ha); modification of the Forest Management and custody instrument in the grouse territory (Pallars Subirá, 1,273 Ha); management study for the resilience of the silvopastoral mosaic according to type of mass (6 private farms in Girona, 2,975 Ha).

Forestry management: renaturalization with GFS (Gaià valley, 15 Ha of Bonelli’s eagle, tortoise and bat habitat, 15 Ha of Aleppo pine, 2 Ha of carob tree recovery, 2.5 of pasture recovery, 2.1 km of roads, etc); habitat management for the conservation of vultures and other large birds of prey (Valle de la Muga, 25 Ha); SFM in grouse roosts with conservation criteria (Pallars Subirá, 2 Ha); SFM for resilience (Fincas de Girona, ~100 Ha).

Bioeconomy: implementation of 3 tourist trails on the vulture, the Mediterranean turtle and on health (Gaià basin); promotion of the establishment of the vulture to activate ornithological tourism (Valle de la Muga); training in landscape bioengineering using the remains of the GFS in the capercaillie area (Pallars Subirá); design of climate credits, search for their commercialization and dissemination among companies in the sector; training in landscape bioengineering; +100 volunteer days, good practice guides and detailed monitoring of environmental and socioeconomic indicators.
