Opportunity Spaces: Biodiversity Aqueducts (Acueductos de Biodiversidad)
PRTR Call for Proposals Project
The main objective of Acueductos de Biodiversidad is to incorporate biodiversity spaces as another part of the city of Segovia, integrated into the rest of the urban elements, in a stable manner over time and with indicators that allow for monitoring. It is proposed to generate a holistic and forward-looking approach to demonstrate that biodiversity in cities is an intrinsic aspect. The execution of the project will establish an improvement of the existing spaces, as well as new areas connected to each other, connecting all the habitats of the city, generating a network that works in a global way, reducing or eliminating barriers and isolated green areas. The project is conceived as an initial example for the future evolution of Segovia, so that actions that can be replicated in other areas of the city are proposed as a future model.

3.800.000,00€The project proposes a new urban approach to integrate biodiversity into the city. Added value will be given from an environmental, natural, cultural, social and health point of view. The actions are based on the concept of opportunity spaces generated by the Parks and Gardens technicians, as new natural spaces integrated into the urban interior. Acueductos de Biodiversidad addresses the restoration of degraded areas and the recovery of linear zones, generating a network of integrated and connected spaces in the city itself. It is intended that all these spaces function as a part of the global whole and not as an individual green area, recovering rigid spaces with renaturalized and permeable areas in the heart of neighborhoods such as Nueva Segovia and La Albuera. In addition, global actions will be undertaken to improve the habitat and control invasive species.
- Review and update of the strategy for the conservation and promotion of biodiversity in the city of Segovia.
- Renaturalization of four squares in the Nueva Segovia Neighborhood
- Improvement and recovery of tree wells and green micro-spaces in the Albuera neighborhood.
- Natural recovery of the headwaters of the Tejadilla Valley.
- Creation of ecological biodiversity gardens in the Tejadilla Valley.
- Environmental recovery in open spaces for public use adjacent to Avenida Vicente Aleixandre.
- New biodiversity zone on Avenida Gerardo Diego
- Development of a biodiversity area between the cemetery and Camino La Presa
- Elimination of invasive species in the old town of Segovia (inside and around the city walls)
- Installation of nesting boxes and actions to promote nesting and breeding of native species.
