Project for adaptation to climate change and improvement of urban biodiversity in Lleida (URBAN-NAT LLEIDA)

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The project has been conceived to generate a three-dimensional green grid in the city of Lleida that connects it with its peri-urban environment that includes points of the Natura 2000 Network. Thanks to the application of nature-based solutions, the city will be more biodiverse and better prepared to face the challenges posed by climate change.

The interventions propose the naturalization of spaces, the connection between them and with the rural environment to promote biodiversity. These green connectors will serve as climate corridors and break down the barriers between the urban space and the orchard, between the ground and the roof of the city.

  • Connection – by means of a 43km green connector – of two points integrated into the Natura 2000 Network. The connected green area will reach an area of 400,000m2.
  • Ecological restoration of peri-urban territorial parks that act as biodiversity nodes and climate refuges for public use.
  • Pilot project for the naturalisation of two urban roads as a replicable model of natural integration, improvement of biodiversity and climate refuges.
  • Increase in vegetation cover in schools.
  • Environmental recovery of the monumental complex of La Seu Vella as the central nucleus of the city.
