Recovery of textile fibres and reuse in the manufacture of new technical yarns

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

SELVAFIL SA is a company focused on the spinning and twisting of synthetic and artificial staple fibres. SELVAFIL produces and distributes specialized technical yarns, manufactured from a single fiber or from intimate mixtures of two or more fibers. They generate yarn for awnings, technical fabrics, fireproof fabrics, special clothing, decoration and automotive. This project aims to implement a series of technological improvements that allow the use of secondary raw material from used technical suit waste (PPE), which is currently discarded in landfill, for the production of new yarn and as a raw material in the manufacture of new technical yarns, maintaining quality standards in the production of technical yarns and ensuring that the final products meet the high demands of resistance and toughness required for fabrics intended for PPE.

The objective of this project is to implement a series of technological improvements that allow the recycling of textile fibers from technical suits (PPE), to reintegrate them into the production process as raw material in the manufacture of new technical yarns, to be used again in the manufacture of this type of specialized clothing. It is intended that at least 30% of the composition of the yarn comes from recycled fibres, which means that for every 1,000kg of final product (technical yarn) 300kg of recycled fibre will be used.
