Reduction of raw material consumption by recycling internal waste from the Royo fabric production process, creating new recycled fabrics that promote the Circular Economy

PRTR Call for Proposals Project

The company Tejidos Royo is dedicated to the manufacture of innovative and sustainable fabrics, mainly for the fashion, home and furniture sectors. They present a project whose main objective is to introduce textile waste into the production process to produce recycled fabrics. To this end, the project mainly proposes the acquisition of a series of equipment and the adaptation of its facilities in Alcúdia de Crespins, Valencia, to create a production area that allows the reduction of virgin raw materials from the production process by manufacturing the same amount of product.

Line of action:

Private sector

Status:

En ejecución

Location:

Alcúdia de Crespins (Valencia)

Geographic scope:

España

Line of research:

Increasing the level of environmental protection of beneficiaries

Execution date:

2024

End date:

2026

Duration:

17/06/2024 - 30/06/2026

Total budget:

€1,492,489.89

Amount of aid from the Biodiversity Foundation:

596,995.95 euros

The aim is for the company to be able to recycle the pre-consumer waste of textile fibres that it generates in its production process thanks to its reintroduction into the same process to produce recycled fabric with high added value, thus promoting the circular economy and reducing the consumption of virgin raw materials per unit produced.

Specifically, it is:

  • Incorporate a quality control that allows the analysis of yarns from recycled fibers.
  • Implement a new weaving facility to work with recycled fabrics.
  • Generate a weaving area that allows the climatic conditions of each loom to be controlled so that each one can work under the conditions required by the recycled fiber that is being used and that is capable of eliminating the fibers in the environment to avoid cross-contamination between lines.

With the new implementations that are intended to be carried out thanks to this project, a significant part of the waste generated would be recovered, optimizing the waste generated by conventional industrial processes to the maximum. They currently introduce 16,623.45 kg of recycled raw material with respect to the total raw material used (+1,000 tonnes), which represents 1.54%. The project aims to achieve 2.1-2.5% of recycled raw material introduced. This represents an environmental improvement of between 30% and 65%, more than 6 tonnes. Previously, these losses were sold to a third party for higher-value applications.
